Ellsworth

Grafton Countyβ€’White Mountainsβ€’Population: 93

Overview

Ellsworth is one of the least populated towns in New Hampshire, located in Grafton County's White Mountains foothills. The town has essentially no commercial development and a minimal year-round population.

Ellsworth's forested land and proximity to Plymouth and Rumney provide access to outdoor recreation and basic services. The town's tiny population and lack of infrastructure keep it one of the most sparsely developed communities in the state.

Housing in Ellsworth is extremely limited, drawing only a handful of residents who want maximum rural seclusion near the White Mountains.

Why "Effective Rate" is a better comparison

New Hampshire towns do not all assess property at the same percentage of market value. The state publishes an annual equalization ratio for every municipality showing how close local assessments are to full market value. A town that assesses homes at only 64% of market value will show an artificially high tax rate compared to a town that assesses at 100%. Multiplying the local rate by the equalization ratio produces an effective (equalized) rate that can be fairly compared across any two towns in the state.
